Hello, and thank you for reaching out.
It is a privilege to be asked to support your next steps. I take the responsibility of writing reference letters seriously, often dedicating several hours to each to ensure they are thoughtful, specific, and impactful. To provide the best possible support while managing a high volume of requests, I use the following guidelines to maintain fairness and transparency.
Eligibility Criteria. I am best positioned to write a strong, credible letter when I have had sufficient opportunity to observe your work and growth. Generally, I consider requests from individuals who meet one or more of the following:
-
Students who have completed at least two undergraduate courses or one graduate course with me and demonstrated strong engagement or significant academic growth.
-
Researchers and students who have collaborated with me on peer-reviewed work, such as for ACM CHI, ACM CSCW, or related venues.
-
Colleagues, Postdocs, or industry partners who have worked with me on at least one major project.
-
TAs or RAs whom I have directly supervised or mentored for at least two semesters.
Submission Requirements. To ensure a high-quality letter, please follow these steps:
-
Complete the request form and email me at least three weeks before your first deadline. Please note that requests with less notice may be declined to protect existing commitments.
-
In your email, include your supporting materials (e.g., CV, statement of purpose, and transcripts) along with any specific application details that will help me tailor your letter.
-
Briefly re-confirm the final submission deadline within the body of your email to ensure it is accurately recorded.
Important Notes:
-
Your request is not considered "accepted" until you receive a direct confirmation from me via email. This ensures I have reviewed your materials and can fully commit to your deadline.
-
I currently accept up to three reference letter requests per person each month.
